We want to tell simple stories about good guys and bad guys. There is some biblical basis for this (see 2 Corinthians 6:14-15), but it is nevertheless an oversimplification. What might some of these complicating factors be? For what reasons might we prefer the simpler stories?
If salvation belongs to the Lord, then the story of redemptive history belongs to him as well. What are some of the ways that he invites us to participate in that story? What are some of the valid (i.e. biblical) ways that the story can be told?
Telling a true story as counter-intuitive as the story of salvation--in order for it to be believable, it has to come from a believable source. In what ways might your behavior, attitudes, dispositions, etc. help or harm your testimony to the truth of God's story of salvation? Has your own life ever damaged your testimony?
In the sermon, we talked about "the way of weakness." In what way was Jesus' path to the cross the way of weakness? How can we mirror his way of weakness in our own lives? What might that look like? What keeps us from walking this way?
If salvation really belongs to the Lord, we have to emphasize prayer. Take some time to pray for those who do not know the Lord.
