Scripture: “I glorified you on earth, having accomplished the work that you gave me to do. And now, Father, glorify me in your own presence with the glory that I had with you before the world existed.” (John 17:4-5)

Father and Son are committed to glorifying one another in the world. Though the Christian life involves suffering, because of the accomplished work of Christ, we are caught up into that glory. We have a share in the glory of the Son. That’s why, even though glorifying the Father “as a living sacrifice” (Romans 12:1) involves hardship and pain and suffering, it is worth it in the end. Jesus himself is our prize.

Prayer: Father, you have given us work to do in this place, work that will glorify your name among the nations. Help us to persevere today. Help us to see our share in the glory of Christ according to the new covenant that you’ve made with us. Help us to remember that, though we suffer now, yet we will live in paradise. Amen.
