Daily Devotional

Scripture: I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. (John 17:20-21)

This is a special set of verses because we are address directly by Jesus. At this very moment, on the eve of his death, Jesus had us in mind. As those who believe in his name through the witness of the disciples, we are caught up in the unity of the church throughout all time. More than that, we are caught up in the very relationship of Jesus to his heavenly Father. What a privilege!

Prayer: Lord Jesus, what an amazing gift that you would think of us during the most trying night of your life. How you love us! Help us to enjoy that love even as we participate in the love of the church—now and across all time. And teach us to be united in faith so that we can demonstrate who you are and what you’re about to the people who need to hear the good news. And forgive us our petty differences when we fight about stupid stuff in the church.
