Evening Prayer

Scripture: You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you. (John 15:16)

Though Jesus spoke this specifically to the disciples, we have a share in these promises, too. Jesus chose us in love to be a fruit-bearing people. More than that, he gave to us the freedom to rely on God for the fruit to be borne and that it should remain. In other words, by the power of God—especially through prayer—our work is meaningful and lasting.

Prayer: Lord, though I cannot see all of the fruit that will come from the seeds I have planted today, I rest knowing that you have called me and even appointed me that I should bear fruit in this life. I pray that my works today would honor your name, your mission, and your sacrifice in Jesus. For without you, I can do nothing. But with you, I can bear great fruit. Amen.
