Lenten Devo #1—The Call of Abraham

Now the Lord said to Abram, "Go from your country and your kindred and your father's house to the land that I will show you. And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed." (Genesis 12:1-3)

Though God chose to bless Abraham, it wasn't going to end there. God blessed Abraham so that he would be a blessing to all the nations. And like Abraham, we are blessed in Christ so that we would be a blessing to the world. In fact, in Christ we become mediators of God's blessings to the world. And there is nowhere that's truer than in prayer.

Because of what Christ has done, we can rest assured that God hears our prayers. That means we can carry the needs of unbelieving souls right into the throne room of God and invite our heavenly Father to bless those who don't yet know him. It's a ministry we have that takes after Christ, for what has Christ done for us but to carry our needs before his heavenly Father so that we would be blessed?

But like we said: not just blessed, but blessed so that we would be a blessing.

What unbeliever is on your list today? Carry their needs before your Father in heaven so that you can be a blessing. Pray that God would save them.
