Lenten Devo #12—That All Should Serve Him

And behold, with the clouds of heaven there came one like a son of man, and he came to the Ancient of Days and was presented before him. And to him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him; his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom one that shall not be destroyed. (Daniel 7:13-14)

The Lordship of Jesus is over all the earth. As one theologian put it (and I'm paraphrasing), "There is not one square inch over all creation over which Christ does not cry out, 'Mine!'" And his kingdom will have no end.

The glorious thing is that all the nations, peoples, tribes, and languages are called to serve him and to be a part of that kingdom. There is a richness to the city of God that our own cities only grasp at, or echo. Or better, the rich diversity of our cities point forward to the city to come.

And our churches are meant to be the same way—filled with people who may not look like us or sound like us, but who love Jesus and are a part of his people. And while we once had to go across the world to encounter different nations, tribes, and tongues, in modern cities, they live next door.

Invite them to church. Pray for them. Share the gospel with them. Work towards an increase in the richness of the kingdom of God.
