Advent Devo #22

Verse: “For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.” (Romans 8:14)

Meditation: Children need rules. But rules aren’t the point, are they? A child formed of godly character will not simply follow the rules. Instead, led by the Spirit, he will serve God and neighbor out of love, the rules of God being dear to his heart, not because they are rules, but because they are God’s. This is the hallmark of a follower of Jesus: the Spirit of love animates his life.

Prayer: Father, we pray that our children would not simply be rule followers (nor rule breakers!), but that they would be led by the Spirit—your Spirit, the Spirit of Jesus Christ. Let you Spirit pour out on them, even today, that they might be transformed into the likeness of Jesus.
