Advent Devo - Day 6

Verse: And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates. (Deuteronomy 6:4-9)

Meditation: These verses are as beautiful as they are convicting. Talk of God is meant to float about the home like a melody, conversations at the dinner table and between games. Yet how many of us are neglectful of filling our homes with God-talk. Many of us can’t talk about the law of God because we don’t know it. And we don’t know it because we don’t read it.

Prayer: Lord, we see our neglect of your word when we look at these verses. So often we have made you an addition, something we tack on to our busy schedules. We do not actively make you the center of our lives, nor do we do our full duty to teach your ways to our children. Please do not count our failures against them. Reveal yourself to them and show them your ways, even as we repent. Amen.
