Scripture: And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. (Matthew 6:13)

The humble person will recognize that, even though he has Jesus in his life, he is still susceptible to temptation and to the wiles of the devil. It took Jesus’ intervention in Peter’s behalf to keep Satan from sifting him like wheat. If Peter, how much more us? Thus, Christ teaches us to pray for God’s protection and leading and deliverance.

Prayer: Father, we know that we are like sheep, easily led astray and easily falling prey to the evil one in our midst. Please protect us. Deliver us from his devices that we would otherwise walk right in to. Lead us away from briars and brambles toward still waters and peace. Amen.
