Evening Prayer

Scripture: Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice, and let them say among the nations, “The Lord reigns!” (1 Chronicles 16:31)

We often think of God’s Lordship over our lives as stifling or full of rules we have to obey. But God’s reign as king is a good thing, something worth rejoicing over. And that’s because he rules in righteousness and justice, and brings peace. That’s the end result. And so we are meant to be agents of peace, justice, and righteousness in his stead, anticipating the day when Jesus returns.

Prayer: Lord, help me to be a peacemaker today and to live in a way that honors you as King of my life. And will you help me see where that makes a difference in the world so that I can be encouraged; because it’s often really hard to live that way because the world often isn’t that way. Strengthen me with your Spirit. Amen.
