CoGro Discussion Questions - #1

These questions are written to facilitate discussion rather than to make the group arrive at a particular place or a “right” answer. Allow the conversation to flow naturally, but don’t let it go away from the gospel and the passage at hand. Help one another apply the gospel message to your lives by asking how we should respond to what Paul says and what the sermon presented.

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, ‘The righteous shall live by faith.’”

  1. What do you like most about Chuck Colson’s story? How is it an example of the power of God for salvation?

  2. The cross was “a stumbling block to the Jews and folly to the Gentiles” (1 Corinthians 1:23). In what ways is the gospel difficult for people to receive today? Or, how is the gospel offensive today? Have you ever “stumbled” over the gospel message? If so, how?

  3. How was Martin Luther reading the Bible before he had his revelation? Do you read the bible that way? How does his revelation change the way we read the Bible and understand the gospel?

  4. How does this new understanding of the gospel as the righteousness of God that comes through faith rather than works change the way you view yourself? The way that you view other people?

  5. Where do you find the power of the gospel at work in your life?

  6. Where do you find it most challenging to walk by faith?
