Advent Devo #24

Verse: Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ. (1 Corinthians 11:1)

Meditation: Children do what they see adults doing. They learn by mimicking, by imitation. This is a delightful thing, deeply pleasing to parents and role models. That is, until you see them picking up your bad habits along with the good. This is one of the reason why we must teach our children to be imitators of us only as we are imitators of Christ. For only God is their true Father, and Christ our true Lord.

Prayer: Lord, thank you that the good things you have given us—even our characters and personalities—can be passed on to our children. But let our joy be tempered with humility. Grant that we would always point our children beyond ourselves and towards Jesus. May he be their captivating vision all their days. Amen.
