Scripture: As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world. (John 17:18)

Jesus is the prototypical missionary, sent by God to bring the good news of the kingdom to a lost, hurting, and broken world that he loved. Our mission is an extension of his mission. And that means that we not only have the same goals as Jesus, but we must also follow in his ways. As Francis Schaeffer once wrote, We must do the Lord’s work in the Lord’s way or he will not honor it.

Prayer: Lord, we often go about doing your work in our own ways. Forgive us for not paying closer attention to who you are and how you work. Teach us to trust you and your ways. Teach us also to love you and your ways. For your ways are not like our ways, your methods not like ours. Amen.
