Scripture: Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin! For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me. (Psalm 51:2-3)

Some sins haunt us. We have trouble even believing that we were capable of doing something like that, or thinking something like that, or feeling things like that. And the more sensitive our consciences become, the more grief we feel over them. We need God himself to wipe away the stain and to cleanse us from our sin. Thanks be to God that this work was completed in Jesus Christ on the cross.

Prayer: Lord, when I’m honest with myself, I know my sins. I see them. I can’t escape them. Like a criminal record, they follow me around no matter where I go. But you can cleanse me. You can wipe the record clean. In the name of Jesus, please forgive me my sins. And teach me to believe in the real, true freedom that I have in Jesus so that I can experience the joy of a clean spirit. Amen.
