Scripture: Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit. (Psalm 51:11)

David had witnessed the Lord take away his Spirit from Saul when he rejected him from being king over Israel. David knew that he deserved as much. And as we pray this prayer alongside David, we recognize that none of us deserves to be blessed with the Spirit of God in our lives. Yet God remains with us because of his great love for us. He treats us according to his mercy, not according to what we deserve.

Prayer: Father, justice is what we deserve, but mercy is what we need. Thank you for treating us according to your steadfast love. Lord, grant that we might live in the freedom and the joy or our salvation as the people of God. And let that joy and peace be a witness to the watching world. Amen.
