Evening Prayer

Scripture: I make it my ambition to preach the gospel, not where Christ has already been named, lest I build on someone else’s foundation, but as it is written, “Those who have never been told of him will see, and those who have never heard will understand.” (Romans 15:20-21)

God desires that all nations be reached with the gospel, and so he instills in some of his servants a strong desire to bring the message to the unreached “people-groups” of the world. Believe it or not, there are still cultures out there who have never heard the name Jesus—and not just in the Amazonian jungle or some remote island off of India. Whole swaths of Northern Africa, the Middle East, and Asia have little to no Christian presence.

Prayer: Lord, raise up more missionaries to be sent to these places where the name of Christ has yet to be proclaimed. Set it in the hearts of your people to go love these people in the name of Jesus. Open the doors to these closed-off people and prepare their hearts so that when they hear the good news they repent and believe. Amen.

If there was ever an upside-down kind of teaching from Jesus, it’s the beatitudes. “Beatitude” just means something like “blessed” or “happy.” And that’s what makes it so weird, actually. Because Jesu
