Evening Prayer: Northern Sudan

Persecution against Christians in the majority muslim nation of Sudan increased after the southern, largely Christian “Southern Sudan” broke away several years ago. Churches have been demolished and Christians have been arrested or intimidated as the increasingly influential Islamic conservatives have pushed for Sharia law. Christians have suffered more direct, more violent attacks in portions of the country where extremists have more control.

PRAYER: Father, please strengthen your people in the love of Christ, that they might pray for those who persecute them. Grant them freedom from hatred and give to them the peace that passes understanding. Uphold them with your righteous right hand and deliver them from evil. We pray that Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdock would soften his position towards Christians and that toleration for them would prevail in the government. (For further prayers, look to Luke 23:32-43.)
