Lenten Devo #36—Other Sheep

"And I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one shepherd." (John 10:16)

God's goal was never to have a people set apart in such a way that the other peoples would ultimately be excluded. While "salvation is from the Jews" it is not for the Jews alone. The advent of Jesus opens up the world of salvation to the nations in a way that fulfills the promise made to Abraham: that his blessing would be a blessing to the nations.

For most of us reading this, we are the nations to whom salvation has come. And for us reading this, we are called to bring salvation to the rest of the peoples who have yet to hear the good news that God saves sinners. For God desires that we all be one people with one shepherd.
