Morning Prayer

Scripture: Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into the harvest.” (Matthew 9:37-38)

Though we want a stable life, it’s often when we feel the foundations shake that the world is ripe for conversion. It’s in times of crisis that people open up to the possibility of something more. When things are going swimmingly, we feel like we have all we need. But when things are going poorly, we tend to wonder about things eternal. The “harvest” Jesus was describing were the crowds that were coming to him in need. They were ready to hear the good news.

Prayer: Lord, please send more laborers out into the world with the good news of the gospel. Raise up for your kingdom preachers and evangelists, servants and prophets. Grant them the gifts they need to reap the harvest, that those who are desperately in need would be granted grace and mercy, entrance into the kingdom of God. And Lord, grant that I should be a laborer today. Set my mind on your kingdom and let me—by my words, my actions, even my thoughts—demonstrate the good news of Jesus to friend, neighbor, co-worker, or even the stranger. Amen.
