Noonday Prayer: Our Nation and Greed

ree

We admire people with a lot of money and we want to have more money, ourselves. We think that more money will solve our problems and make us happy. We think that life consists in possessions and luxurious experiences. “Influencers” flaunt their wealth on social media and have thousands of “followers” who live vicariously through them. Even those who have more than they need to live spend time dreaming about what it would be like to be rich. Whatever we have, we want more.

PRAYER: Father, our nation is caught in the lie that life is in the abundance of possessions, and that more money will make us happy, will satisfy us. Set us free from this illusion, and teach us to be satisfied with the blessings you give us. More than that, Lord, make us a generous people who are free to give out of their abundance—and even out of their poverty. Amen.
